The first Central Alumni Association website was built in June of 2007 and had a great turnout for it's first year of operation. In that year we had 362 registrations that came in at a steady rate. Due to the success and the growth we have already achieved it was known a new site would have to be built. The website you are currently viewing is capable of thousands of registered users, and hundreds of concurrent connections. Instead of using a flat-file storage mechanism, everything is now stored in a database that allows faster searching and increased general performance. The website is built on top of one of the most advanced content management systems which will make information turn around even faster. All in all this website should last us long into the future and is the last planned major site renovation. Along with the ability to handle a larger user base, this site is also attempting to fix various problems that presented themselves on the legacy site. The greatest issue on the legacy site was members forgetting their login details, specifically their usernames. This was likely due to the irregularity of visits to the site and is hopefully put to an end on this site by allowing a user to login with either their username OR email address. The second largest issue we faced was with the Alumni Association Member payment process. Users would, somewhere in the process, have a failure during registration often leading to them being registered without them knowing and without successfully becoming an Alumni Association member. |
